Clinical Communication Skills
Goals: for students to develop effective communication skills with patients, their families, health professionals and other medical care providers in English.
The student must demonstrate an interpersonal and communication skills in order to achieve an effective exchange of the information and collaboration
This include verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Using lectures, videos and Role-plays, students will build skills for starting a rapport with patients, “taking history “and providing “summery “for the cases.

Goals: for students to sharpen their communication skills with patients and other health professionals in English, especially with “clinically challenging cases”.
Student must demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills in order to achieve an effective exchange of information and collaboration, this includes verbal and non-verbal communication skills, gaining a clear understanding of patients' needs or medical issues, and exhibiting empathy to the patients.
Students will cover both aspects of “History Taking “and “Physical Examination” through the example cases. Furthermore, students will practice communicating their findings to other health professionals.

This course will run throughout the year meeting approximately 20 times in total (exact dates will be discussed during the class).
Approximately, 50% of each class will be spent on practice for the IELTS exam. Homework will be kept to a minimum and topics will gradually progress from familiar topics such as introducing yourself, your hometown, your interests, and your goals to more advanced topics such as current events, role-plays, recent developments in science, and the future of medicine.
Students will be encouraged to play an active role in the development and direction of the course. Topics may be adjusted or even changed to better tailor the course to students’ interests and needs.
Medical Ethics and the Law

このコースは、全学年の医学生、そして看護学生を対象としています。
このクラスは、「アドバンスド・クラス」になりますが、参加するのにハイレベルな英語は必要ありません。英語を上達させたい、特にスピーキング力!そして授業を楽しみたい!という方に最適なクラスとなります。

English for Medical Research Purposes/Biostatistics
対象者:医学科1年生以上 、全看護学科生

First Semester:
This course aims to develop students’ understanding of basic research skills. Students will be expected to develop their understanding and knowledge of basic medical research methodology, learn how to form a research question and scientifically make a research about it.
Second Semester:
This course aims to develop students’ understanding of advanced research skills. In addition, students will be expected to define and test their own null hypothesis, present their research in English and learn how to deal with criticism.
In this course students will present their research which they conducted during the first semester.

This course aims to prepare students for researching in a biomedical laboratory situation where the
common language is English.
As this class will concentrate on advanced English, students will need an English level equivalent
to Academic IELTS 6.0 or higher upon starting the course.
Global Health issues
対象者:前医学学生、全看護学生

Participants will practice their English through discussing and debating a range of Global Health topics. Topics may include: Health problems in disasters; Drugs: use or abuse; Pain management; etc. Participants will also have the chance of suggesting class topics they are interested in.

Are you bored of book work? Are you tired of teacher-talking? Want something exciting? Then watch a movie! It's tempting to think that putting on a movie is simply an excellent excuse for the students to sit in the classroom, dim the lights and fall asleep clutching the remote. But it's not true! Join the class to know why! See you on Wednesdays 16:30 to 17:30.

Participants will practice and learn different techniques for expanding their English vocabulary. Strategies and Techniques may include: repetition; semantics; contextualization; etc. Participants will also have the chance of suggesting class content based on what they are struggling with.

Participants will learn and practice various English slang vocabulary and phrases. Participants will be introduced to the slang and asked to use their critical thinking skills to determine how it is used appropriately. Then participants will practice using the slang in their own words. Participants will also have the chance of suggesting class content.
Remedial English
対象者:医学科1年、2年
**Currently running during Lunch Time hour.
This course will run throughout the year meeting approximately 30 times in total.

Vocabulary retest 10min
This course aims to: Prepare students to take the final exam, vocabulary and speaking tests all of which are needed to pass the core English classes. At the end of each class students will be given an opportunity to do a make up test for that weeks vocabulary.
Advanced Medical Vocabulary

1) Medicine has a very distinct and highly specialized language. It is necessary for any student wishing to pursue a successful career in the medical field to acquire comprehension in this system of communication. Learners will receive thorough instruction in developing fluency with medical terms. Medical vocabulary will be taught with specific emphasis on root (or stem words), prefixes, suffixes and abbreviations. By the end of this course learners will be expected to have a basic comprehension of medical terms and be able to communicate accurately to their peers in the field.
2) Terms associated with anatomy, physiology, pathology and diagnostic tests of different systems are discussed but no previous knowledge of these topics is necessary.
