Paul is from Auckland, New Zealand, and thanks to his grandfather is also a citizen of Ireland. He has lived in Osaka since 2006, and has taught English to learners from the age of 5 all the way up to the age of 90. Paul has a law degree and an arts degree (majoring in history and philosophy) from the University of Auckland (New Zealand), and a master’s degree in applied linguistics and TESOL from the University of Leicester (UK). He has given numerous presentations and published a number of academic papers related to the field of applied linguistics. When he is not teaching or researching, he can be found jogging or cycling around the Kita-ku area in Osaka, eating out at one of Fukushima’s fabulous restaurants, or rocking with his band ‘The Ballbreakers’ somewhere in Osaka. Paul also loves travelling, and isn’t far away from achieving his goal of visiting all 47 Japanese prefectures (36 so far!).
